Mumbai, August 30 (TNA) Panic broke out at Karjat railway station when heavy smoke was noticed coming from beneath the coaches of the Mumbai-bound Koyna Express. Passengers raised an alarm after seeing the smoke, and several people got off the train in panic as railway staff and the Government Railway Police rushed to the spot.

According to railway sources, the incident occurred when the 11030 Kolhapur-CSMT Koyna Express was negotiating the Karjat ghat section. Preliminary findings suggest brake binding, a technical fault in which brake pads stick to the wheels even after the brakes are released, causing friction and smoke.

The train was detained for inspection and later allowed to proceed after the brake block was released. Officials said there was no fire-related casualty or injury in the incident, though movement on the Karjat-Kalyan corridor was briefly affected.
