Siliguri, August 21 (TNA) The Union Home and Cooperatives Minister, Amit Shah, on Friday inaugurated a 6-day awareness exhibition on the three New Laws-BNS at Kawakhali Ground in Siliguri. On this occasion, Shah also inaugurated the newly constructed Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate building and a 20-bed de-addiction centre at Uttar Bengal Medical College and Hospital.

The Home Minister, who was present as the chief guest, addressed a large number of college, university and law students and citizens and said that the three new laws, that is, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), will further protect the citizens. He announced that the BNS has now been fully implemented in the state. He said that justice will be ensured within three years after the FIR is filed.

He thanked Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for giving 1129 acres of land to the BSF within three days of coming to power, giving utmost importance to border security. He said that the said land requested for fencing the border had been pending since 2014 and was not given by the previous Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Shah said that the security of the country, state and people is paramount for BJP.

He said that during the previous TMC government, the rule of administration was followed, but now under the BJP government, the rule of law has been ensured. Praising the Chief Minister, he said that Adhikari has completed 43% of the promises made in the election manifesto in just 100 days of his rule.
He added that what Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said during the elections- if the BJP comes to power in the state, fear will end and trust will begin- is now being seen at the ground level. Fear, corruption, extortion, collusion, and syndicate rule have come to an end, said Shah.

Talking about CAA, Shah said that Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, etc. who have come from Bangladesh due to persecution will now get citizenship within 6 months, and this right has been given to the state government by the Home Ministry. He said that the old Penal Codes and Criminal Laws have been abolished and the new BNS is based on Technology, transparency, and timelines.

He further added that the zero tolerance policy against illegal immigrants will continue and the Detect, Delete and Deport process will be strictly followed. He reiterated that the government’s commitment to deport every illegal immigrant from the country is of the utmost priority. He also said that demographic change will be strictly stopped.

He said that for the safety and security of the state and nation, the sensitive Siliguri Corridor, known as the Chicken Neck, is paramount. He added that the Chicken Neck, connecting eight states of Northeastern India and three countries, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh, will be fortified by a triangular grid of army cantonments built in Chopra, Dhubri and Kishanganj, saying that public awareness, security force presence and visibility have been greatly increased here.
