Ahmedabad, September 13 (TNA) Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms lashed several parts of Ahmedabad on Sunday, leading to waterlogging on key roads, traffic snarls and inconvenience for commuters. Dark clouds covered the city throughout the day as intense spells of rain reduced visibility and affected normal movement.
The western part of the city received the highest rainfall between 6 am and 5 pm, with Motera recording 56 mm. Water accumulated on several arterial roads and at busy intersections, slowing traffic and leaving commuters stranded in some locations during the afternoon downpour.
Areas including Nana Chiloda and New Shahibaug were among those more severely affected by the sudden showers. Motorists and pedestrians faced difficulty navigating rain-hit roads, while civic authorities were urged to monitor drainage systems to prevent prolonged waterlogging.
Reports also said a house collapsed in the Khadia area amid the rain. Details regarding casualties or injuries, if any, were not immediately available. The rainfall in Ahmedabad is part of a broader wet spell across Gujarat, driven by multiple weather systems. The India Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rainfall across Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch from September 13 to 15, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall likely in parts of Gujarat on Sunday.
Ahmedabad has been placed under an orange alert for heavy rainfall, while weather officials have warned of intense spells accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over the next 48 hours.
Residents have been advised to avoid waterlogged underpasses and low-lying stretches, drive slowly during heavy showers and remain cautious near electric poles, open drains and damaged structures. People have also been urged to follow official weather and civic advisories as more rain is likely across the city and other parts of Gujarat.
