New Delhi, September 5 (TNA) The Congress on Saturday announced a reshuffle of its organisational structure, appointing new general secretaries and state in-charges with immediate effect. The changes were announced in a press release issued by All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on September 5, 2026.
Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has been appointed AICC General Secretary in-charge of Assam, while senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala will take charge of Gujarat. Sachin Pilot has been appointed General Secretary in-charge of Punjab.
The party has appointed Sukhdeo Bhagat as in-charge of Chhattisgarh, Dr Sirivella Prasad as in-charge of Maharashtra and P.V. Mohan as in-charge of Andhra Pradesh. Surjewala will also hold the additional responsibility of AICC General Secretary in charge of Karnataka.
The appointments have been made by the Congress president and will come into effect immediately, according to the party’s official communication. The reshuffle comes as the Congress continues efforts to strengthen its organisational presence and state-level coordination across the country.
The party also acknowledged the contributions of outgoing General Secretary and state in-charges Jitendra Singh, Ramesh Chennithala and Manickam Tagore. The press release did not specify their next organisational responsibilities.
Meanwhile, Mukul Wasnik will continue as AICC General Secretary. The latest changes are expected to bring a renewed focus on the party’s organisational affairs in Assam, Gujarat, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
