New Delhi/Mumbai, September 14 (TNA) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a First Information Report in the death case of celebrity manager Disha Salian, who had briefly worked with late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The move follows a Bombay High Court order earlier this month directing a CBI investigation into her death and raising serious questions over the earlier Mumbai Police probe.
Salian died after falling from the 12th floor of a residential building in Mumbai’s Malad area on June 8, 2020. Mumbai Police had initially recorded an Accidental Death Report and treated the matter as an accidental death.
High Court questions earlier inquiry
The Bombay High Court reportedly criticised the police for not registering an FIR in the matter for six years. The court observed that the earlier investigation appeared to raise more questions than it answered and pointed to apparent shortcomings in the inquiry.
Following the court’s direction, the CBI has now formally registered an FIR and is expected to re-examine the circumstances surrounding Salian’s death, including records collected during the initial investigation and statements of relevant persons.
Case drew attention after Sushant Singh Rajput’s death
Salian’s death gained widespread public attention after Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai apartment on June 14, 2020-six days after Salian’s death. The timing led to speculation over a possible connection between the two cases, although no such link has been established in the report.
Following Rajput’s death, the Maharashtra government ordered a CBI inquiry into that case. The agency later filed a closure report stating that Rajput had died by suicide; the report is still pending consideration before the concerned court.
Fresh investigation begins
The FIR marks the beginning of a fresh central probe into Salian’s death. The CBI is likely to examine the case records, circumstances of the fall, available forensic material, mobile and digital evidence where available, and the findings of the Mumbai Police investigation.
The agency has not yet publicly disclosed the specific sections of law invoked in the FIR or named any accused. Further developments are expected as the CBI begins its investigation.
