Itanagar, September 29 (TNA) An Assam Rifles jawan was killed, and four others were injured after a patrol team came under suspected militant attack along the India–Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Tuesday morning, officials said.
The incident took place at around 6:30 am near Nampong Nallah, under the Nampong circle, when personnel of the 21 Assam Rifles were patrolling an area where border-fencing work was under way. Preliminary reports said suspected militants opened fire on the patrol team.
The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Havildar Jankhokai Kuki. Four other personnel sustained injuries in the attack and were evacuated for medical treatment. Their condition was not immediately known.
Search Operation Underway
Security forces have launched a search operation in the area to track down the attackers. The identity of the militants has not been officially confirmed. Preliminary reports have suggested the possible involvement of cadres belonging to the NSCN (K-YA) faction, although officials have not issued a final confirmation regarding the attackers’ identity.
The attack occurred in Changlang district, which shares a border with Myanmar and includes areas where security forces are engaged in patrolling and border-management activities.
