New Delhi, October 31 (TNA) A fresh weather system is developing over the Bay of Bengal days after Cyclone Arnab made landfall on India’s eastern coast. The India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to extremely heavy rain in parts of Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states on November 2 and 3.

According to the IMD, the well-marked low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression and then develop into a cyclonic storm. It is expected to move west-northwestwards and reach the west-central Bay of Bengal near the Andhra Pradesh coast around the evening of November 2.

Andhra Coast at Highest Risk

Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam are likely to receive isolated extremely heavy rainfall on November 2, followed by isolated very heavy rain on November 3. Rayalaseema is also expected to receive very heavy rainfall on both November 2 and 3.

The developing system may bring strong winds, rough seas and localised flooding to coastal areas. Fishermen have been advised to remain cautious and follow instructions issued by local authorities.

Odisha Also on Alert

Odisha is likely to receive heavy rainfall on November 3 and 4 as the weather system moves closer to the eastern coast. The state is still dealing with the effects of Cyclone Arnab, which caused flooding, landslides and casualties in several districts.

Authorities have been asked to monitor low-lying areas, drainage systems and vulnerable infrastructure. Heavy rain could damage standing crops and disrupt harvesting, transport and power services.

Rain in Southern States

The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall over parts of southern India between November 2 and 4. Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe, Rayalaseema, Telangana and the interior districts of Karnataka are likely to receive rain during this period.

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal may also receive rain, particularly on November 3 and 4. Chhattisgarh could see rainfall on November 3 and 4 as the system and its associated circulation influence central India.

Authorities Urged to Prepare

The IMD has advised state disaster-management agencies to remain prepared for intense rainfall, waterlogging and possible flooding. Residents in coastal and low-lying areas have been asked to follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather.

The forecast remains subject to change as the system develops. Officials are expected to issue updated warnings on its strength, movement and likely landfall during the next 48 hours.
