Mumbai, September 23 (TNA) Indian equity benchmarks opened higher on Wednesday, September 23, with the Sensex gaining around 160 points and the Nifty 50 rising nearly 50 points in early trade.

The Sensex was trading near the 74,700 level, while the Nifty 50 moved above 23,350 shortly after the opening bell. The positive opening came after both indices ended lower in the previous session amid selling pressure in IT, healthcare and banking stocks.

The BSE Sensex had closed at 74,529.08 on Tuesday, down 329.91 points, or 0.44 per cent. The Nifty 50 settled at 23,329, declining 85.30 points, or 0.36 per cent.

Market sentiment remained cautious as investors continued to track global developments, crude oil prices, US bond yields and renewed selling by foreign portfolio investors. FPIs have withdrawn more than ₹20,000 crore from Indian equities in September so far, adding to concerns over foreign fund flows.

Investors are also monitoring developments in West Asia and movements in the rupee and global markets. Analysts expect volatility to remain high as traders assess the impact of elevated crude prices and geopolitical uncertainty on inflation, corporate earnings and economic growth.

Broader markets also opened on a mixed-to-positive note, while sectoral indices witnessed selective buying. Further movement during the session is expected to be guided by global cues, institutional activity and stock-specific developments.
