Mumbai, November 4 (TNA) Indian equity benchmark indices opened in the red on Wednesday, tracking a cautious global market trend after a strong four-session rally. The Nifty 50 opened lower, while the BSE Sensex also declined in early trading. GIFT Nifty futures had signalled a weak start, with the contract trading below its previous close before the market opened.

Global Markets Weigh on Sentiment

Investor sentiment was affected by weakness across several Asian markets and mixed U.S. stock futures. Market participants were also assessing developments linked to the U.S. midterm elections, which added to uncertainty in global markets.

Technology stocks remained under pressure amid concerns that a possible change in the U.S. political environment could lead to greater regulatory scrutiny. Rising crude oil prices and movements in U.S. bond yields were also being closely monitored.

Rally Prompts Caution

The subdued opening followed a sharp rally on Dalal Street. The Sensex and Nifty had advanced for four consecutive sessions through Tuesday, supported by strong corporate earnings, foreign fund inflows and gains in sectors including automobiles, FMCG, real estate and private banking.

Foreign institutional investors bought Indian equities worth approximately ₹6,836.81 crore on Tuesday, while domestic institutional investors continued to sell, providing a mixed signal for the market.

Investors Await Direction

Traders are expected to track global market movements, crude oil prices, the rupee, foreign fund flows and further corporate earnings during the session. Analysts said investors could remain selective after the recent gains, with volatility likely to continue.

The market’s direction may depend on whether domestic buying can offset pressure from weak international cues and profit-taking at higher levels.
