Mumbai, September 30 (TNA) Indian equity benchmarks opened on a mixed note on Wednesday, September 30, amid volatility in global markets, elevated crude oil prices and concerns over geopolitical tensions. The BSE Sensex rose 166.67 points, or 0.23 per cent, to 72,695.74 around 10 am, while the Nifty 50 slipped 6.90 points, or 0.03 per cent, to 22,723.10.

The market had opened weaker earlier in the session. The Sensex fell 87.92 points to 72,441.15, while the Nifty declined 51.2 points to 22,665. The benchmarks later recovered as buying emerged in select large-cap stocks.

Sectoral Trend

Information technology, media and select public-sector banking stocks showed strength during early trade. Auto and metal shares remained under pressure, while BSE, Max Healthcare Institute and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories were among the notable Nifty laggards. In the previous session, the Sensex closed at 72,529.07 after losing 239.65 points, while the Nifty 50 ended at 22,716.20, down 64.05 points.

Global Cues Weigh

Market sentiment remained cautious because of volatility in crude oil prices, elevated US Treasury yields and continuing geopolitical uncertainty. GIFT Nifty had indicated a flat-to-negative start for the domestic market.

Investors are also tracking foreign institutional flows, currency movements and developments in global markets for further direction. Analysts expect volatility to remain high, with traders likely to focus on large-cap stocks and defensive sectors.
