Mumbai, August 30 (TNA) HDFC Bank chief executive Sashidhar Jagdishan has conveyed his decision to not seek reappointment as MD and CEO, and will retire from the bank at the close of business on October 26, 2026, according to an exchange filing made on Saturday. The board said it had taken note of his communication and, despite persuasion, Jagdishan reiterated his decision.
The bank said it will fast-track the process of identifying and appointing his successor well in time. Jagdishan, who has spent nearly three decades with HDFC Bank, is set to end a five-year stint as the lender’s top executive.
His decision comes at a time when Indian private banks have seen multiple leadership transitions. Over the past two years, five other private-sector lenders-Yes Bank, IndusInd Bank, Bandhan Bank, Karnataka Bank and City Union Bank-have also witnessed leadership changes.
The development has renewed attention on governance and succession planning in the banking sector, especially at a time when HDFC Bank is still managing the integration aftermath of the HDFC Ltd merger.
