New Delhi, September 24 (TNA) Gautam Adani and his family have reclaimed the position of India’s richest, overtaking Mukesh Ambani and his family, according to the M3M Hurun India Rich List 2026.
Adani family wealth rose 13 per cent to ₹9.23 lakh crore, while Ambani family wealth declined 10 per cent to ₹8.63 lakh crore. The difference between the two families stood at approximately ₹59,400 crore.
The latest ranking marks Adani’s return to the top position after Mukesh Ambani had led the list in the previous edition. The change reflects movements in the market value of companies linked to the two business groups.
The Hurun report also showed a sharp increase in the number of wealthy Indians. The number of individuals with wealth of at least ₹1,000 crore rose to 1,810, an increase of 128 from the previous year. Their combined wealth grew 12.8 per cent to ₹187.5 lakh crore.
India’s dollar-billionaire population also reached a record 391, with 27 new billionaires added during the year. The number has risen substantially from 237 five years ago.
The report noted that artificial intelligence, technology and quantum computing are emerging as important wealth-creation sectors. A significant share of the new entrants were self-made entrepreneurs, highlighting the growing role of technology-led businesses in India’s expanding wealth landscape.
