New Delhi, September 23 (TNA) Banks across the country will remain open on Sunday, September 27, to ensure uninterrupted banking services ahead of a proposed three-day nationwide strike.
The Ministry of Finance said the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the functioning of all bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and currency chests on September 27. Public sector banks and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) will operate normally on the additional working day.
The decision has been taken to prevent disruption to banking services, as the proposed strike is scheduled from September 28 to 30. The strike has been called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) and follows the weekend holidays on September 26 and 27.
The Finance Ministry said the move would ensure that people’s essential banking requirements are not affected for an extended period. Customers will be able to access regular branch services, cash-related facilities and other banking operations on Sunday.
The government and bank management have appealed to the unions to reconsider the proposed strike. Authorities have also directed banks to make the necessary arrangements to keep services fully operational on September 27.
