LUCKNOW || Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath late on Sunday drove down to the residence of veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kalyan Singh to wish him on his birthday. The saffron robed chief minister spent some 15-odd minutes at the residence of Singh, who was twice the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and till recently served a five-year term at the Jaipur Raj Bhawan as the governor of Rajasthan.
Yogi gifted Singh a book on the Kumbh and wished him a long and healthy life. The 87-year-old BJP leader was one of the most towering personalities in the BJP in the late ’90s and early 2000 until he fell out with the then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and was expelled from the party.
He later formed a political outfit – Rashtriya Kranti Party (RKP) but it didn’t do too well.
In 2014 he returned to his political alma meter and has been sticking close since then. He was made the Rajasthan governor in 2014 and his son Rajveer Singh is a BJP MP from UP while his grand son is a minister of state in the Yogi Adityanath government. It was during his tenure as the chief minister of UP that the 16th-century Babri mosque, standing on the disputed land in Ayodhya was razed to the ground by Kar Sevaks.
