LUCKNOW || Uttar Pradesh governor Anandiben Patel has been given the additional charge of Madhya Pradesh, a communique from the Rashtrapati Bhawan has said. The former Gujarat chief minister has been given the charge since the incumbent Lalji Tandon has been seriously unwell and is undergoing treatment at a medical facility in Lucknow.
Tandon, a former UP minister and a close aide of late PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has been hospitalised after liver and kidney complications.
His indisposition had crippled work at the Bhopal Raj Bhawan, even delaying the expansion of the ministry of Shivraj Singh Chauhan. First, it was the COVID lockdown and then the ill-health of Tandon which has been postponing the swearing-in of the new ministers, an official said.
Tandon continues to be on Bipap machine and is not able to breathe in his own. Some time back he was on ventilator support as well. A string of leaders from UP and MP visited him during his stay at the Medanta hospital in Lucknow.
