LUCKNOW || As Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra gets more and more active in politics, especially in Uttar Pradesh, voices from the party have started demanding that she be “made the face” of the party in the politically crucial state. On Thursday, Karti Chidambaram, son of former union finance minister P Chidambaram, tweeted that the party should name Priyanka as the “chief ministerial candidate of UP for 2022”.
“The path for a national revival of the @INCIndia is via Uttar Pradesh. The clearest statement of intent will be to declare @priyankagandhi as the Chief Ministerial candidate of the Congress in UP. PGV must be primarily based in Lucknow and lead the charge” he tweeted.
The demand comes at a time when the BJP government’s at the centre and in UP seem to be rattled by the Gandhi scion who is leading a no-holds-barred charge against the Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath governments. It was only on Thursday that news came that she was planning to shift base from New Delhi to Lucknow, a day after she was served a notice by the union urban development ministry to vacate her government bungalow which she has been occupying since 1997.
UP Congress leaders ditto Kartik and say that if this happens it would go a long way in energising the party cadres to make a comeback, both in the state and nationally. “There can not be a better thing than this. Only Priyanka ji is in a position to take on Yogi Adityanath and his arrogant government” a party leader told The News Agency.
