VARANASI || As India celebrated the glory of Lord Mahadev on Friday, Varanasi, the temple city remained in Shivabhakti mode much before the Shiva faithful did across the country. All this as faithfuls made a beeline for the city.
The city was tastefully decorated with temples all decked up. The cleanliness drive in the city was intensified. The district administration made special preparations this time. A three-day Mahashivratri Mahotsav on the banks of the Ganges was a first, unlike previous years. The festival was inaugurated by the UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
On till the 22nd of February it is being held at Rajghat. Every day there will be a presentation of cultural programs including Shiva Tandava dance by artists. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya will be present at the closing ceremony.
As devotees from all parts of the country trickle in to see Baba Vishwanath on Mahashivaratri, security remains an important issue. This time a three-tier security plan has been prepared to avoid any untoward incident.
On Mahashivaratri, a close watch was kept on movements through drones from Ganga Ghat to Vishwanath temple. 9 ASPs, over 2200 hundred police and PAC personnel will be deployed. Not only this, policemen in plain clothes were present among the devotees.
Varanasi Superintendent of Police, Prabhakar Chaudhary has made it clear that there were special security arrangements during the course of the Mahashivaratri Mahotsav. Shiva devotees were given all possible help. On Mahashivratri, Shiv devotees reached Kashi from every corner of the country, in such a situation, the police had first priority to help negate problems.
