Security Of 'Forcibly Retired' IPS Amitabh Thakur Withdrawn

Lucknow, April 2 (TNA) The Lucknow police has suddenly withdrawn the security given to ex-IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, his family said on Friday. In the aftermath of the Mulayam Singh threat in July 2015, Amitabh Thakur had approached the Government of India for his security after which the Ministry of Home Affairs had directed the UP Government on December 9, 2016 to provide him security.

The MHA had also said Amitabh and his family had attracted attention and cultivated adverse equations with many politicians, bureaucrats and other powerful people and hence the Central Government had directed to provide adequate security to him.

In compliance of this order, Amitabh was provided State security in December 2016, which has remained with him since then. Today his security person Harikesh Bahadur Singh intimated him that he was directed yesterday night to immediately deposit his arms in compliance of Lucknow Police Commissioner directions, saying that his duty with Amitabh was being withdrawn immediately. Amitabh said the situation was worse today and has called "it an act of revenge."
