Prisoners Riot In UP's Ballia Jail, Stones Pelted At Jail Staff

Ballia, July 15 (TNA) After remaining calm for a few days, the Ballia District Jail once again erupted late on Wednesday with inmates indulging in rioting and pelting stones on the staff and later at the police personnel requisitioned to control the situation. Police had to use force and tear gas to disperse the unruly mob of prisoners.

It all started late in the evening when on some issue, the prison inmates went berserk and created ruckus. With situation going out of hands, the jail administration sought the help of the police and PAC personnel were sent inside the jail to control the situation. Within a short time, DM Aditi Singh and SP Vipin Tada also reached with the force of many police stations.

Whatever happened in the district jail on Wednesday evening was not sudden. According to jail sources, its script was being written for the last three-four days. On Wednesday late evening, instead of going back to the barracks after attendance, the prisoners started violence. It too the police and the PAC more than an hour to contain the situation.

There was a ruckus in the jail in the past after a prisoner escaped by scaling the prison wall. Jail Superintendent Prashant Maurya was transferred after investigation. If jail sources are to be believed, then the new superintendent UP Mishra took a strict stand after coming here. The prisoners used to use the mobile indiscriminately through the convenience fee.

On the instructions of the government, PCO was arranged in the jail itself, so that the prisoners could talk to their homes from time to time. The prisoners had objections to this arrangement.

Apart from this, there was resentment among the prisoners regarding the strictness in checking etc. However, sources also say that the factionalism of prisoners and employees also fuelled this anger.
