Local Industry Upbeat About Agra Metro Rail Project

Agra, December 8 (TNA) Local industry, specially the tourism sector in Agra, the city of the monument of love Taj Mahal, is upbeat with the kickstarting of construction work of Agra Metro Rail project.

The ambitious Rs 8,000-crore project, the local tourism industry leaders believe will boost tourism-related activities in India's tourist destination number one. In his Sunday speech, prime minister specifically mentioned the role and contribution of the tourism industry to the economy.

In the last couple of years, a slew of initiatives had helped India climb to the 34th position from 65th in 2013. People should now be vocal about local tourism, he added. The PM said hotel tariffs had been reduced and the list of countries allowed E-visa facility had increased.. Agra, he said was now ready to enter a modern era, with the metro rail network which will strengthen the smart city mission.

Infrastructural up-gradation and ease of connectivity were necessary requirements to ensure accelerated growth of the tourism sector. Prime Minister Modi said UP would gain a lot from regional connectivity projects and the international airport at Jewar. As the Covid-19 scenario improved, tourism will again see a return to brisk growth
