Court Orders Sealing Of Well In Gyanvapi Mosque Where A Shivlinga Was Found

Varanasi, May 16 (TNA) In a significant development, a local court in Varanasi has ordered the district magistrate (DM) to immediately seal a well inside the Gyanvapi mosque complex where a ‘Shivling’ was found during the court-mandate three-day videography.

The last day of filming began this morning amid tight security and restrictions near the complex. Water was also drained from the water body today, claimed a lawyer for the petitioners, who added that a ‘Shivling’ was found.

The court has also asked the DM and the Police Commissioner to ensure that the water from the well is no longer used for ‘wazoo’, a purification ritual practised by Muslims before offering of the namaaz. The court will hear the case on Tuesday.
