Angered By Hathras Incident, Congressmen Show Black Flags To Smriti Irani In Varanasi

VARANASI || The Congress on Saturday kept the heat on the Uttar Pradesh government over the Hathras incident. Union minister Smriti Irani was shown black flags in Varanasi, where she was on a one-day visit.

Congress workers in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of prime minister Narendra Modi, blocked way as the cavalcade of the minister passed.

Some overzealous workers threw themselves before her car and had to be physically whisked away by the minister's security detail. Police also tried to shoo them away by use of force.

Angry Congress workers shouted anti-Yogi, anti-Modi slogans and said that the security of women and girls was in tatters under the rule of the BJP. The minister was trying to pacify the protestors and also try to tell the cops not to use force on them.
