81 Accused In A Case Acquitted By Varanasi Court, Proceedings To However Continue Against UPCC Chief Ajay Rai

Varanasi, Oct 5 (TNA) 81 persons, including Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda and Satua Baba, accused in the 2015 injustice protest march in Varanasi were acquitted by a court in Varanasi on Wednesday. At the same time, the case against the 82nd accused, UP Congress State President Ajay Rai, will continue. This decision was given by Special Judge Avnish Gautam of MP/MLA Court.

An affidavit was filed in the court on behalf of the UP government and an appeal was made to withdraw the names of these 81 people from the case, to which the court agreed. Assistant District Government Advocate (Criminal) Vinay Kumar presented the government's side.

Special Judge MP/MLA Court Avnish Gautam said in his order that the government has cited the criminal history of Ajay Rai and hence has decided not to withdraw the case. Apart from this case, other cases are also pending against Ajay Rai.

The prosecution told in the court that during the year 2015 in Varanasi, there was lathi charge on Swami Avimukteshwaranand and other people who were adamant on the demand of immersion of Ganesh idol in Ganga. In protest against this, on October 5, 2015, a march to protest against injustice was taken out from the Town Hall ground in Maidagin.
