18 SP Workers Booked For Attempt To Murder A Cop In Meerut During An Anti-Government Protest

Meerut, Oct 12 (TNA) 18 Samajwadi Party (SP) workers have been booked for attempt to murder while they all they were doing was protesting against government policies.

Apart from IPC 307 (attempt to murder), SP workers also have been booked under 15 other sections including rioting and unlawful assembly despite prohibitory orders.

Most of them are students and 16 SP workers have been sent to jail. All of them are accused of attacking a policeman and injuring him badly for stopping him from burning an effigy of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Since when has it become a crime to oppose the government? A case has been registered against our workers for attempt to murder. Where is the policeman who is said to have been hurt? You think someone with a burn can heal in five days without a trace left? The government is using police and bureaucracy to threaten other political parties

Apart from IPC 307 (attempt to murder), SP workers have been booked under 15 other sections including rioting and unlawful assembly despite prohibitory orders.

Samajwadi Party District President Rajpal Singh has written a letter to the District Magistrate in this matter saying that the arrested activists are innocent youths who were only exercising their right to protest.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prabhakar Choudhary, said action has been taken against the SP workers for they threw petrol at a policemen.

The SSP said, "A policeman got scorched in the fire caused by petrol being thrown." The case was registered on October 4. On the same day, SP demonstrated against the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
