LUCKNOW || The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday recommended a CBI probe into the kidnapping and murder of Sanjeet Yadav, a lab technician from Kanpur. This was done after the family of the deceased demanded so, an official informed. Sanjeet, a lab technician, was kidnapped in Kanpur on June 22 and a complaint of his missing was lodged in the Barra police station on June 23.
The kidnappers established contact with the family of Sanjeet on June 29 and sought a ransom of Rs 30 lakh, which was given but the people arrested after electronic surveillance told the police that they had killed Yadav on the same night of kidnapping as he had identified them.
His body was thrown into the Pandu River. Embarrassed at the public outrage and fire from opposition parties, UP chief minister had ordered a probe by senior IPS and ADG VP Jogdand.
Sanjeev’s sister Ruchi had sought a CBI probe, to which the government ceded on Sunday. Five persons including two women – Neelu Singh, Preeti Sharma, Kuldeep Goswami, Ramji Shukla and Gyanendra Yadav have been arrested in the case.
