UP Police To ‘Drop Women Home’ Safely If Contacted On 112

LUCKNOW || On the mat for not doing enough to create a safe feeling and a secure environment for women and girls in the state, the Uttar Pradesh Police is learnt to be toying with the idea of “dropping women home” in the company of lady constables in case its late-night, sources said on Monday.

It is being said that the DGP Headquarters is working on this ambitious plan wherein women who are alone or find themselves in some distress can call up the 112 and seek the service of getting themselves dropped in police protection to the safety of their homes.

In order to help women feel safer, Sikkim Police on Sunday had launched a similar free ride scheme. Under this, any woman in the state capital, Gangtok, who finds herself alone and unable to find transport late at night, will be dropped home in a vehicle free of cost. UP seems to be following suit as a lot many crimes against women and girls happen in the state.
