LUCKNOW || Hours after the dreaded criminal Vikas Dubey was killed in an alleged encounter with the Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh Police, opposition parties in the state have questioned the operation and accused the state government of eliminating the gangster for fear of being “exposed by him”.
Former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav lead the opposition charge and was the first to react to the development. The Samajwadi Party (SP) chief, while alluring the overturning of the STF vehicle and the subsequent claim of the cops that Dubey was trying to escape after snatching a weapon from a policeman escorting him, said “it is not the car that turtled” but through this “the government was saved from overturning“.
He said that the gangster was silenced so that he does not “spill the beans on his political connections in the ruling party”. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also joined the charge and tweeted that while the criminal has been killed, what about the people who patronised him over the years? SBSP president and former UP minister Om Prakash Rajbhar made similar noises.
He said as was feared, the gangster was killed by the police so that the cop-politician-mafia nexus does not come to the fore. Randeep Singh Surjewala of the Congress too has asked three questions to the UP police and the BJP, seeking to know why the criminal who had given himself up to the police then try to flee and on why his call details of the past ten days were not being shared.
Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Jayant Chaudhary too slammed the UP police for the encounter and in fact even went a step ahead, training his guns on the judiciary. Calling the encounter theory a “drama” and a “coverup” he said that in BJP rule “there is no place for courts”.
The four-time Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati also joined the melee and demanded a probe into the whole thing by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court. She said this was necessary for justice to the bereaved families of the policemen who were killed by Vikas Dubey.
