LUCKNOW || In one of the biggest decisions towards police reforms in the state, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Monday ratified a proposal to implement the police commissionerate system in two cities – Noida and Lucknow.
Addressing the media after a cabinet meeting, chief minister Yogi Adityanath informed that in the first phase, as a pilot this would be implemented in the state capital Lucknow and Noida, neighbouring New Delhi.
The move was being vehemently opposed by the state’s Indian Administrative Service (IAS) lobby, which found this to be a move that “would elbow them out“. Many governments in the past have tinkered with the idea but never could implement it. Adityanath seems to have finally mustered up the courage to bell the cat and okay the setting up of the police commissioner system.
