VARANASI || In a terse and one of its kind action against a government official, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has demoted the director of the Poorvanchal Power Distribution Corporation and made him an engineer. The decision comes after his failure to bring back on track the power supply system in Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of prime minister Narendra Modi.
The hitherto director Anshul Agarwal has been demoted to the post of a chief engineer while he earlier held the post of the technical director. The tough call was taken by power minister Srikant Sharma after the official failed to work efficiently to improve the power supply in the VVIP district.
This decision, an official said was taken due to a long power cut on July 7. The minister has also warned callous officials to fall in line and to ensure that power is supplied as per the set guidelines and directives of the state government.
