UP Cabinet Nod To Notification Of SIT To Probe 1984 Kanpur Riots

LUCKNOW || The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to notify at police stations the specially constituted special investigation team (SIT) to probe the infamous 1984 riots in Kanpur which left hundreds of Sikhs dead in the aftermath of the assassination of prime minister Indira Gandhi by her own security guards.

A decision to this effect was taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday. The cabinet also approved a proposal put before it to beautify the Ram Leela grounds at Aishbagh in Lucknow.

Other than this the amount already sanctioned for the cremation of freedom fighters was also enhanced.

The boundary extension of several districts – Mathura, Mau, Saharanpur, Balrampur, Pratapgarh, Aligarh, Pilibhit, Rampur, Sonebhadra and some others was also approved. A proposal to purchase four Mahindra Scorpio vehicles for the motorcade of governor Anandiben Patel was also given a go ahead.
