LUCKNOW || The political slugfest in Uttar Pradesh on transport to students and absence of one for the stranded migrants facing unprecedented problems during the national lockdown got shriller on Friday with the Congress, Mayawati and the ruling BJP training guns on each other.
Earlier in the day while the BJP fielded its UP deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma to slam the Congress “natak” on the buses issue, the BJP supremo Mayawati, whose love lost for the Congress is well known, also thrashed the Congress for what she said were crocodile tears!
By evening, the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) joined the sparring and accused the Yogi Adityanath government of lying, being insensitive and of engaging into politics at the cost of the migrant labourers. At a press conference, leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Aradhana Mishra ‘Mona’ said that the party had sent a list of 1000 buses to the state government of which 1032 were buses only.
She rebutted the claims of the ruling party that the list had registration numbers of tempos and other vehicles. “I say this with full responsibility,” the Congress leader said while adding that her party had double-checked the numbers of these buses. Accusing the BJP government of leaving the labourers to fend for themselves, Mishra said that the Yogi government had in fact “cheated the helpless migrants”.
Another senior party leader Birendra Chowdhary slammed deputy CM Dinesh Sharma, saying it did not behove a leader pf his stature, a teacher by profession to blatantly lie. He pointed out that the MD UPSRTC, Raj Shekhar had written twice (on April 18 and 27) to the Rajasthan government, seeking details of the expenses so as that the payments could be made.
He also added that such arrangements have been in place for years between state governments. Such bundle of lies were only to divert the attention of the people from serious issues like the crisis faced by the migrants, he added.
Chairman of the minority cell of the UPCC, Shahnawaz Alam said that while the Congress was all out to help those in crisis people lie BJP and BSP supremo Mayawati were acting in cohorts to divert the people’s attention.
Mayawati, he charged, had in fact become the unofficial spokesman of the BJP. He also went on to question the four-time UP chief minister over her silence on the problems faced by the people, especially Dalits, during the COVID-19 lockdown.
