UNNAO || The mortal remains of the Unnao rape victim were buried in her native village in Unnao amid tight security on Sunday. While initially, the family refused to go ahead with the funeral as they demanded that chief minister Yogi Adityanath come and meet them, they relented after many state minister’s and officials persuaded them to go ahead with the last rites.
The sister of the deceased had also demanded that she be given a government job. Divisional Commissioner Mukesh Meshram later announced that the state government had okayed the demand and a financial compensation of Rs 25 lakh has also been announced by chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
Ministers in the state government Swamy Prasad Maurya and Kamal Rani Varun were present at the funeral. Congress’s ex Unnao MP Anu Tandon along with some other leaders were also present during the burial. From the Samajwadi Party (SP) MLC Sunil Yadav ‘Sajan’ was present with some local party leaders.
The government has also okayed two houses under the PM Was Yojna, a government job to a family member and an arms license for protection and safety. The family however soon after the burial said that of the demands were not met within a week, they will stage a sit-in in front of the Vidhan Sabha. They also accused that the rape victim was not given proper and prompt treatment while she was in the state.
The sister of the deceased also said that the last words of her sister were whether the culprits have been arrested yet or not and had asked the family to ensure that justice was done.
