LUCKNOW || Twelve hours after the Unnao rape victim died in a New Delhi hospital, politics over the tragedy began in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is on a two-day visit to the state, cancelled all her engagements of the day and rushed to the Unnao village, neighbouring the state capital, to be with the bereaved family.
In a related development, Samajwadi Party leader and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav staged a sit-in at the main entrance of the sprawling Vishan Sabha building in the state capital, to protest against the brutal rape of a woman in Unnao, where she was also set ablaze by the assailants. He was accompanied by state SP chief Naresh Uttam and senior party leader Rajendra Chowdhary.
Talking to reporters, the former UP chief minister said that till a time that the UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, the state’s DGP and the home department boss do not resign, justice will not be done. The SP chief also announced that a condolence meeting will be held to mourn the death of the Unnao rape victim, across the state in all districts.
