Thousands Take Holy Dip On Kartik Poornima, Dev Deepawali

LUCKNOW || Hundreds and thousands of devotees took the holy dip in the Ganges in Varanasi, Prayagraj and other holy rivers across Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of Kartik Poornima on Tuesday. The devotees thronged the ghats on the bank of the Ganga river in Varanasi right from sunrise. The same was the scene at the picturesque Sangam in Prayagraj where thousands turned up for the holy dip on the day dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

The day will also witness Dev Deepawali where several hundred earthen lamps (diya’s) would be lit up on the river banks. The district administration and police have made massive arrangements in Varanasi for the ‘Dev Deepawali’ on which 11 lakh diya’s will be lit up in the evening.

Drone cameras are being deployed to man the 84 big and small ghats in the temple town. 115 NDRF personnel have also been put on duty on 22 boats in case of an eventuality.

Other than this, an official informed The News Agency, 130 CCTV cameras have also been installed to keep a vigil on a large number of devotees thronging the ghats. Para-military personnel, PAC troopers and local police are also manning vantage points to keep an eye on mischievous elements and to ensure that the festival passes off peacefully.
