SP Leader-Son Shot Dead In UP’s Sambhal, Old Animosity Reason

SAMBHAL || A leads of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and his son were shot dead in cold blood in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, police said. The double murder took place in Shamsoi village falling under the Bahjoi police station. The father-son had gone to oversee some MNREGA work going on at the outskirts of the village when the crime was committed.

The deceased have been identified as Chote Lal Diwakar and his son Sunil Diwakar. Prima facie, police say the murders appeared to ow their genesis in an old animosity.

Diwakar was given an SP ticket in 2017 but the seat later was given to Congress under the alliance agreement. Both were gheraoed by the assailants and then shot.

Both were killed on the spot. The MNREGA workers fled from the crime scene as shots rang the air. Police have begun a probe into the double murder and bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Former UP minister Om Prakash Rajbhar has slammed the Yogi Adityanath government for failing to maintain law and order, which he said, was visible due to the spiralling crime in the state.
