LUCKNOW || If you thought you will ring in Christmas this year with a flurry of WhatsApp messages and SMS’s, you are in for some dismay and shock as the state government has extended the ‘internet down’ diktat by another one day. According to officials in the state government, the ban on the internet has been extended till 8 pm on Wednesday.
This has dimmed the festival spirit in the state capital and some other districts of Uttar Pradesh, which has been witnessing a first-ever clampdown on the internet in the aftermath of the violence that singed many parts of the state after protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Mobile internet services have started in Lucknow and some other places on Monday night but the network blinked again on Tuesday, following fresh orders from the state machinery, an official on a mobile major told The News Agency.
Other districts on the radar of the state government and Uttar Pradesh Police for a ban on the internet include Sambhal, Kanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Bulandshahr.
