Setback For Chidambaram, Plea Against CBI Arrest Dismissed

NEW DELHI || Senior Congress leader and former union finance minister P Chidambaram faced a series of legal setbacks on Monday as the Supreme Court (SC) told a petition filed by his lawyers that the top court was yet to list the case for hearing in the day.

His petition challenging his CBI custody since last week was not listed for a hearing, a bench of the apex court told Chidambaram’s lawyer Kapil Sibal and informed further that the petition “would be listed only after orders from Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi“.

The SC also refused to take up his petition requesting protection from arrest by the CBI – filed on Wednesday – saying it was “infructuous” now he has since been arrested. The apex court as of now hearing a plea on behalf of the former union home and finance minister “for protection from arrest by the Enforcement Directorate“.
