NEW DELHI || The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday granted extra time of two weeks to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for probing the Unnao gang rape and victims accident last month. This was done after the premier investigative agency submitted its status report to the apex court and sought for more time to go into further details.
The SC had earlier on August 1 given the CBI a fortnight’s time to complete the probe into both these cases. The court also directed the Uttar Pradesh government to provide Rs five lakh for treatment of the counsel of the rape victim, who was also injured in the road accident in are Bareli when he was going along with the victim and two of her aunts to the prison to meet their uncle on July 28.
Following the directive of the Supreme Court, the CBI had constituted a 20-member special team which included an SP, ASP, Circle Officer, inspector and sub-inspectors.
