LUCKNOW || Ending months of unease and suspense, the Uttar Pradesh government on Friday appointed RK Tiwari as the full-time chief secretary, an official said. The top bureaucrat had been serving as officiating chief secretary since the past many months (August-2019) since the retirement of Anoop Chandra Pandey.
Tiwari is known to be a refined man and has been winning hearts in the political establishment with his quiet nature of working. What also worked in his favour, a source said, was his clean record so far, honesty and being from the Brahmin community.
The Yogi Adityanath-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government had come under heavy fire from opposition parties for running the administration on ad hoc basis. So far it has failed to find any replacement for OP Singh, the DGP who recently retired and temporary police chief is serving the state. It is likely that a full-time director general of police is soon appointed.
DS Chauhan, a senior IPS officer who has since returned from Delhi from central deputation is the front runner.
