LUCKNOW || Former Uttar Pradesh governor Ram Naik on Tuesday lauded the decision of the Uttar Pradesh government to implement the police commissioner system in the state. In a telephone call to chief minister Yogi Adityanath, the veteran BJP leader said the decision was long awaited and would go a long way in improving the law and order in the state.
In a separate statement, issued by his office from Mumbai, he expressed hope that the decision would work towards speedy improvement in the law and order in Uttar Pradesh.
In December 2018, after a police parade, Naik had lauded the working of the UP Police and had called for police commissionerate system in cities with over 20 lakh population.
“The historical move by the UP government would strengthen the hands of the police officials and the common people will get the facility of improved policing” the former union petroleum minister further stated. UP cabinet had on Monday ratified a proposal to implement police commissioner system in Noida and state capital Lucknow.
