LUCKNOW || Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra surely seems to be taking politics seriously. Or so it seems as a day after the union urban development ministry served her a notice to vacate her official bungalow in New Delhi, where she lived since 1997, she is now set to shift to a bungalow belonging to her aunt in Lucknow.
Sources said that Vadra was very cut up with the Modi government for “the vindictive nature of its actions” but had decided not to be deterred by such things. Lucknow, she told her close aides, would be her next home from August. A Congresspeople leader said that prior to the latest development, Priyanka had decided to shift base to Lucknow to “pursue serious UP-centric politics”.
But due to Coronavirus, the programme was delayed a wee bit. She will now be shifting to the residence belonging to a relative, the late Sheila Kaul. This bungalow is at the Gokhale Marg and is being readied for her entry. Vadra has been very vocal of the mishandling of the pandemic and the migrant crisis.
She Tweets almost daily about the problems being faced by the common people, be it due to lockdown, unemployment ot the spiralling fuel prices in the country.
She had recently said that the governments – both at the centre and in Uttar Pradesh, should understand that she is the granddaughter of late prime minister Indira Gandhi, known for her grit and determination. She had further stated the BJP government cannot scare her into silence.
Sheila all was the maternal aunt of Indira Gandhi and served as union minister and governor as well. Her daughter Deepa Kaul lives in the sprawling house at 23/2 Gokhale Marg. It has a huge ‘Vat Vriksh’ near the boundary which was planted by Mahatma Gandhi in 1936.
Congressmen in UP are enthused at the developments as they feel that her arrival in Lucknow would add power to the party’s fight against the Yogi Adityanath led BJP government in the state.
