LUCKNOW || Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra came down heavily on the Yogi Adityanath-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh and accused it of “paying lip-service to farmers“. A day after heavy rains and equal ruined the crops of farmers in most parts of eastern and western UP, the Congress leader said the government was better advised to work to bring solace to the farmers in distress rather than making tall claims.
Farmers in Ayodhya, Rae Bareli, Lucknow, Amethi, Barabanki, Sitapur have been hit badly by sudden, unexpected rains and bad weather, she said in a Tweet and added that two persons have also been killed in Sultanpur.
Crops of peas, wheat, mustard have been flattened and farmers are looking towards the government to help them out in these times of despair, Vadra said further.
Demanding that the state government immediately announce a financial package to make up for the losses incurred by the farmers, the Congress leader also told the CM and the ruling party leaders not to self-pat themselves on false claims but to do something on the ground.
