NEW DELHI || As the nation celebrates the Children’s Day to mark the birth anniversary of Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru, prime minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid rich tributes to India’s first prime minister. In a tweet, Modi said: “Tributes to our former PM Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary.”
Nehru’s birth anniversary is celebrated as the children’s day across the nation to mark his love for children, which earned him the nickname of ‘Chacha Nehru’. Functions are being held in many schools across the country and in Uttar Pradesh where the children are being treated with special treatment by the teachers and school staff.
Former PM Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Former President Pranab Mukherjee, former Vice President Hamid Ansari were among the many who visited the Shanti Van in New Delhi and paid floral tributes to the first prime minister of India.
