New Book On Muslim Women Published By AMU Faculty members

ALIGARH || Two Faculty members of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Professor Abdur Raheem Kidwai (Director, UGC HRDC) and Dr Juhi Gupta (Centre for Women’s Studies) have recently published their edited volume, Muslim Woman: What Everyone Needs to Know (New Delhi, Viva Books, 2019, 250 pages ISBN: 978-93-89401-52-3). It carries 22 articles contributed by experts.

Dr Claire Chambers (Department of English, University of York, UK), has contributed the opening article on Feminism. These articles focus on the Islamic perspective and explore various aspects of the lives of Muslim woman, particularly in the domains of education, career, personal law, economy and social relations.

The articles attempt to allay some misgivings about Muslim woman; it is geared towards enabling readers to learn the Islamic stance on woman and how it has been misconstrued down the ages, resulting in various misconceptions about Islam itself.

Contributors to the volume are academicians from the AMU, Universities of Kashmir, Delhi Lucknow and MANUU (Hyderabad). It also carries interviews with Professor Emeritus Sylvia Vatuk with Flavia Agnes and the novelists, Qaisra Shahraz and Shelina Janmohamed.
