BIJNOR || In a shocking incident, an undertrial was shot dead in a court room in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, police said. The man, who is accused of a double murder was shot dead in front of the chief judicial magistrate as the proceedings were underway.
Three assailants, all int heir twenties according to eye witness accounts whipped out their pistols and opened fire. They were later chased by policemen present in the courtroom and overpowered. The crime left everybody, including the judge and local officials dazed.
The deceased has been identified as Shahnawaz Ansari and he was accused in the double murder of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) politician Haji Ahsan Khan and his nephew on May 29 this year.
After hot pursuit by the police, Ansari had surrendered in Delhi. He was produced in court by the Delhi Police on Tuesday. The assailants have been identified and one of them is Haji Ahsan Khan’s son. One employee of the court also got injured in the shooting and has been admitted to a local medical facility with a gun shot wound.
Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav took to Twitter and poked fun of the UP government and the Police by saying that a “day light murder in front of a judge in court had exposed the trigger happy encounter willing UP Police”.
