LUCKNOW || In what could prove to be a game-changer for the state capital of Uttar Pradesh, e-bikes will be available near Metro stations which can be hired for the benefit of the commuter on the streets.
In a meeting of the State Transport Authority that was held at the start of the week, a decision to this effect has been taken. The two-wheeler e-bikes will be launched in a group of fives by both companies who mooted the idea.
The decision to launch the e-bikes is on lines of cities like Mumbai and Goa. The proposals by the two companies involved were approved by the State Transport Authority. In the first phase, the e-bikes will ply on a trial basis.
Based on recommendations of the Auto-rickshaw three-wheeler Sangh, these e-bikes for the benefit of the commuter will be made officially available as early as February.
E-bikes will be made available by the stringent use of mobile apps. Much like usual Ola and Uber services, GPS will be the basis of tracking these vehicles. Reportedly the fares will suitably be decided by the concerned authority. These e-bikes will have a provision to get locked after the booking time lapses.
In case of the Mumbai e-bikes, the rates are set. One has to pay Rs 10 to use e-bikes and after that Rs 10 is charged for every 10 minutes.
The model works with the use of YULU app on mobile phones in Mumbai. Users usually scan codes on the bicycle or e-bike to start using them. The e-bikes are picked up and dropped at the designated stations.
