LUCKNOW || Mortal remains of senior journalist and editor of ‘Sputnik’, Arvind Shukla were cremated at the Bhainsakund crematorium on the banks of river Gomti in Lucknow on Sunday.
After some operational glitches which delayed the return of his body to Lucknow from Raipur, his mortal remains were brought to his ancestral house at Sapru Marg for his friends, well-wishers and relatives to pay their last respects.
A large number of people turned up to console his wife Geeta, also a journalist and paid homage to the 57-year-old journalist, known for his down-to-earth nature and charming smile. Shukla died in Raipur in the wee hours of Saturday after suffering a massive cardiac arrest. He had gone there to attend the wedding in the family.
His body was later taken to the crematorium where his colleagues and family bid him a tearful adieu. Senior journalists Shiv Shankar Goswami, Rajendra Dwivedi, Surendra Dubey, Ram Dutt Tripathi were among a large number of journalists present during the cremation.
Former principal secretary (Information) Rohit Nandan and media advisor to UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Shalabh Mani Tripathi also visited the Bhainsakund where Shukla’s younger daughter Ambika lit the funeral pyre amid an emotional atmosphere.
