NEW DELHI || in a major breakthrough which is set to go a long way in providing safe travel to train passengers in the era of Coronavirus, the Kapurthala Coach Factory has come out with a special design for coaches. Informing of this major development, railway minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said that there have been some major design improvements in this direction.

Titanium-Di-oxide coating functions as photoactive material, an eco-friendly water-based coating that kills viruses, bacteria, mould, and fungal growth and most importantly enhances indoor air quality. It is non-toxic and approved by the food testing laboratory of the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA). CE certified TiO2 is considered to be a safe substance and is harmless to humans.

The coating has been applied on washbasins, lavatory, seats & berths, snack table, glass window, floor, virtually every surface that comes in human contact. The effective life of the coating is 12 months, it was further informed by Railway officials. Other than these, the latches are to be opened by the foot and the use of hands – that carries the maximum risk of virus transmission, have been included in the new coaches.
