RLD Chief Ajit Singh Passes Away After Failed Battle With COVID, Cremated As Per Protocol

Lucknow, May 6 (TNA) Former union minister and chief of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Ajit Singh passed away on Thursday after an unsuccessful battle with COVID, his son and leader Jayant Chaudhary confirmed.

Ajit Singh was a seven-time MP from Baghpat in western Uttar Pradesh and was four times a union minister also. He was also a Rajya Sabha member once.

His condition had deteriorated on Tuesday night after infection in his lungs and he was rushed to a medical facility. But despite the best efforts of the doctors, he could not be saved and the end came on Thursday.

His personal secretary Samarpal Singh informed that the last rites of Singh had been conducted as per COVID protocol and he urged people, his followers and party leaders not to visit the Delhi residence of the late leader owing to the Coronavirus pandemic.

His passing away plunged the western UP into a state of mourning as he was one of the tallest farmer leaders of the region. Son of former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, his political muscle had weakened after the rise of BJP in UP but he continued to be a respected voice in the farmer circles.
