Former UP Chief Secretary Anup Chandra Pandey Named Election Commissioner

Lucknow, June 8 (TNA) Former Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Anup Chandra Pandey an election commissioner, a statement said late on Tuesday. With the appointment of the 1984-batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) of the UP cadre, the poll panel now has its strength of three restored to its full.

He had retired as the UP chief secretary in August 2019. His administrative acumen has not been questioned in the past and he was instrumental in holding a investors meet in the initial days of the Yogi Adityanath regime.

The move is being seen in political circles as a consideration by the BJP to "keep the Brahmins in good humour" after reports of their disenchantment with the ruling party did the rounds.
